I purchased a beautiful pair of Irish Green, glass earrings from WindHorse Arts. The craftsmanship and dedication to detail are evident in these earrings. I love glass earrings and these are a true find. They are so lightweight and the color is prominent against my dark hair. They don't weigh down my ear lobes at all. I have sensitive ears and have not had any issues at all. They are dangly, which I love, and although they have natural movement and swing, they don't get caught in my hair! I have been buying Alison's glass art for probably 15 years. The first piece I bought at her shop on Vinalhaven is still my favorite and I'll be heartbroken if it's lost because each piece is unique. Her jewelry is beautiful and I love the simplicity of the way she works with glass and color- the result is not simple at all but an amazing and resonant alchemy ! I have many necklaces and earrings to match a variety of moods and seasons. What is beautiful about these pieces is that they celebrate energy and connection. Many artists who work in this medium just create overly chaotic images and textures within the glass but Alison's work is so subtle. I have replaced the simple cords on the necklaces many times because I never take them off. People admire this jewelry all the time when it is worn and it evokes the most interesting and heartfelt reflections and conversations. I am sad to have not been back to the island for many years but Alison's website is terrific and I have enjoyed sending many people to it. Would love to return to Vinalhaven someday but it's nice to have a connection with Alison and her work and the place either way. Going into Alison Thibault's WindHorse Arts is a glorious experience. The door stands open, and kids, neighbors, and shoppers come in and out all day. Inside is a kind of paradise: necklaces, earrings, and bracelets in exquisite colors cover the walls, all painstakingly made by Alison; there are bowls of rings, there's a dog, a comfy chair. There has not been a day in many years when I'm not wearing one of Alison's necklaces and a ring; many islanders can say the same, as well as innumerable visitors. She keeps track of every purchase, so if I buy a necklace for a friend or relative, I can check with Alison years later to match the color. Alison’s work is beautiful - she offers many choices of colors, and a unique artistic approach, layering pieces of glass that reveal different colors when they move against your skin.
The ornaments I have purchased - a couple of glass balls in delicious shades of pale orange and pale green - are the highlights of my Christmas tree year after year. This past Christmas I also bought several whimsically shaped and decorated glass tree ornaments to give to my adult children, and they were a huge it! I saved one of them in particular to hang from the half jaw of a deer whose carcass I found on the island.
