Imagine waking up one day and realizing the life you are in, isn’t the life you were supposed to be living …

Studio and Storefront on Vinalhaven Island in Maine

After 21 wonderful years in my Main Street studio storefronts, WindHorse Arts has built a new studio and teaching space adjacent to my home, and I am relocating my retail shop to a shared space with New Era Gallery.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both Elaine and me– combining our shared love for creativity and community engagement.

While our businesses will remain separate we are very excited about the ways in which this new partnership will benefit both us and our community.

I will be “open for business” by the middle of November through the holidays and then we will spend the winter months working out the permanent design and logistics of the space. Together, we aim to create a vibrant space that celebrates artistic expression and fosters a sense of community. Stay tuned for further announcements. We are looking forward to welcoming you all.

Peace, Alison

Since WindHorse Arts launch in 2000, I have personally crafted each piece, working with sheets of colored glass, a hand held glass cutter and a 1500 degree kiln.

What emerge from the fire are rare pieces of captured light in the brilliant spectrum of colors illuminating my studio and my customers.

My journey in glass started with a lost earring. Inspired to make a match for the remaining favorite earring, I learned to fuse glass at a moment when I was seeking a new way to live, and work I wouldn’t want to retire from. When people started asking to buy the jewelry right off my body, I listened.

Woman wearing a fused dichroic glass earrings and necklace

I’ve owned all types of jewelry and nothing compares to WindHorse Arts. Once I bought my first necklace I was HOOKED!! I don’t wear anything else. I consistently receive compliments! The myriad of colors go with everything and anything. Also if I’m looking for something custom, it’s never an issue and during COVID, it has been a godsend to be able to send WindHorse Arts gift cards! I can’t say enough!

Fused Glass Tapas Plate

Tapas Plate

This fused glass dish measures about 5" by 5", looks great by itself or with a mix of others. Use it for table ware or as a soap dish or simply for display.

WindHorse Jewelry is worn by all people (not just women) ranging in age from 5-95 and as a longtime customer says “WindHorse jewelry is like a good pair of shoes it can be dressed up or dressed down - it’s perfect for any occasion.”

To create pieces simultaneously elemental and personal, I draw inspiration from the everchanging landscape - sea and stone, forest and sky - of my island home, from the family of people who love my jewelry, and from the music and stories always playing as I work.
